Mumps
Mumps causes painful inflammation and swelling of the parotid below the earlobes,
submaxilary, and sublingual gland. It may lead to meningitis, encephalitis, hearing
loss, and sterility etc.
Type of vaccine
Live virus vaccine
Age and frequency of the vaccination
Over 1yr old, 1 shot.
It is recommended that non-immune adults should get vaccinated.
Side effects
2 to 3 out of 100 people experience a fever and/or swelling under their ears for
a few days, and rarely developing into meningitis.
Minimum interval between vaccinations
over 27days
Note
Because mumps can cause high fever, it is recommended that Children who are prone
to febrile convulsions should get vaccinated.
