Influenza
Influenza has more severe symptoms than a common cold, and it spreads easily
every winter. In particular, persons with weak immune systems- the elderly
and infants- can develop severe symptoms, even lead to death in some cases.
Type of vaccine
Inactivated vaccine
Routine Vaccination (age and frequency)
Regular vaccination 65 years old or older, 1 shot
Optional vaccination under 65 years old, 2 shot, 1-4 week apart
over 13 years old, 1 or 2 shots
Side effects
The injection site may become swollen or reddish.
Minimum interval between vaccinations
over 6 days
Note
Those allergic to eggs should consult a doctor before receiving this vaccination
as they may experience an allergic reaction.
Because Influenza can cause high fever, it is recommended that Children who are
prone to febrile convulsions should get vaccinated.
Vaccine’s Effectiveness
The effectiveness may vary among people. About 2 weeks after the vaccination,
antibodies develop in the body and provide protection against influenza virus for
about 5 months. Although not everyone can produce enough antibodies, the vaccination
can make the symptoms milder and reduce the chance of severe complications.
