Vaccine 肺炎球菌
Preventing Illness
Preventing pneumonia and other infections that are caused by pneumococcus bacteria
Pneumonia
Most of senior’s pneumonias are caused by pneumococcus bacteria, which can also cause sub-nasal cavity flame, tympanitis, and meningitis etc.
Pneumococcal Vaccine
There are more than 80 different types of pneumococcus bacteria, 23 of these are
covered in the current vaccination, and 80% of pneumonia caused by pneumococcal
bacteria can be prevented. Because other pathogens can also cause pneumonia, this
vaccine can not prevent all kinds of pneumonias. One month after vaccination, antibody
value rises to the highest level, which can be kept for 4 years. The antibody value
will decrease to 80% 5 years later, and then slowly go on. However, the antibodies
in the blood are still working after 5 years.
*Because pneumonia is a common complication of influenza, getting influenza vaccination
is recommended. Having both pneumococcal and influenza vaccinations is a good pneumonia
prevention.
