Hepatitis B
Hepatitis B is one type of viral hepatitis. The virus enters the body and multiplies
in the liver. Not only is there concern over chronic hepatitis, but this illness
can also cause cirrhosis as well as liver cancer.
There is a very high probability that mothers with hepatitis B virus will infect
their babies during delivery. Therefore, it is important to take preventive measures
when delivering babies from mothers with hepatitis B virus.
Type of vaccine
Inactivated vaccine
Routine vaccination (age and frequency)
Common prevention: 2 shots 4 weeks apart
1 additional shot, 5-to 6-month later (total 3 shots)
Prevention of Mother-to-child transmission: a total of 3 shots at 2, 3, and 5 months
of age
Side effects
The injection site may become swollen and/or reddish.
Minimum interval between vaccinations
over 6 days
Note
In abroad, the first shot of hepatitis B vaccine is given to infants shortly after
birth.
Children who will go to abroad and live with a group of individuals are recommended
to get vaccinated.
