Epidemic diarrhea and vomiting (gastroenteritis) 流行性嘔吐下痢症(感染性胃腸炎)

Viral gastroenteritis is an intestinal infection caused by a variety of viruses that results in vomiting and diarrhea.

Causes

Rotavirus, norwsalk-like virus, and enteric adenovirus etc. Rotavirus and norwsalk-like virus infections are common in winter, but adenovirus infections occur year round.

Latency period

1 to 3 days

Transmission

Infection is by oral ingestion, fecal-oral route or droplet infection.

Symptoms

Symptoms are mainly vomiting and watery diarrhea, sometimes milk-like diarrhea, and may last 3 to 7 days. It is important to often check if there are signs of dehydration.

Treatment

The main concerns of treatment involve heteropathy and avoiding dehydration.

Prevention

It is very important to gargle and wash hands often, especially after handling vomit and feces.

School /Kindergarten

The infected child should not go to school unless the vomiting and diarrhea have subsided and the body condition has improved.
