School Epidemics 学校伝染病

 

It is a kind of epidemics which are very easy to spread in school and need to take precaution.

 

They can be classified into three groups according to the characters of the illnesses.

School Epidemics type I

Rare but can cause serious conditions. Listed under category 1 & 2 in the New Infectious Diseases Prevention Law(excluding tuberculosis).

School Epidemics type II

Infectious illnesses which are spread through saliva (spit).

School Epidemics type III

Other Infectious illnesses.

Epidemics Which Require Prevention and the Length of Suspension From Classes (Article 19 and 20 of the School Health Act Regulations)

TypeI

Ebola hemorrhagic fever, Crimean-congo hemorrhagic fever, variola, South American Hemorrhagic Fevers, Pest, Marburg disease, Lassa fever, Polio, Diphtheria, Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (pathogen is limited to SARS Corona virus), and Bird flu (pathogen is limited to Influenza A virus subtype H5N1)

Until completely recovery
※All illnesses (“New type influenza” “specified infectious disease” “new infectious disease”) under article 6 section 7-9 of the law concerning the Prevention of Infections and Medical Care for Patients of Infections are classified as type I Infectious Illnesses.

TypeII

Influenza & flu-like illnesses
(H5N1 Bird flu is not included)

2 days after the fever has gone

Pertussis

Until the peculiar cough ends

Measles

3 days after the fever has gone

Mumps

Until the swelling in the salivary glands disappears

rubella

until the rash disappears

Chicken pox/ Varicella

Until all rashes become scabs

Conjunctival fever (Pool fever)

2 days after major symptoms subsides

Tuberculosis

Until a permission has been given by a doctor

TypeIII

Cholera, bacillary dysentery, enterohemorrhagic E.coli, typhoid fever, paratyphoid fever, epidemic keratoconjunctivitis, acute hemorrhagic conjunct, other epidemics (streptococcal infection, viral hepatitis, hand-Foot-Mouth disease, erythema infectiosum, Herpangina, mycoplasma pneumoniae, and viral gastroenteritis)


 ※Illnesses listed under type 2 may be allowed an exception if a doctor finds the risk of transmission to be none.

Infectious Illnesses that does not require class suspension under normal condition
Head louse, molluscum contagiosum, and impetigo contagiosa.
